Benefits for our Chamber members
The Chamber of Commerce is a member-driven organization that acts as “The Voice of Business.” Whether we are advocating locally or to provincial and federal leaders, the Chamber works to enhance the opportunities for business to develop and thrive. We also provide members with access to a whole list of competitive services to enhance their business, such as merchant discount rates, group insurance programs and our Member 2 Member program.
Membership reaches outside our local borders
As Chamber members, you are also automatically members of three additional organizations: the World Trade Centre - Edmonton, which provides access for members to the world wide network of World Trade Centres and their resources; the Alberta Chambers of Commerce; and the Canadian Chamber of Commerce. These memberships ensure your voice is heard on the provincial and national stage.
A look back at 2009
2009 saw a significant change in the global market and in turn, a change in our local market. In late 2009 the Chamber saw a major increase in the use of our marketing tool as our members look to increase their sales and networking opportunities. Our Connections, Mega Mixer, Mixers all saw an increase in participation. Our Evening Mixer has become so popular that we have started a Morning Mixer. These are all positive sign that our economy is moving forward. Grande Prairie was a global leader in the market prior to the melt down and we are emerging as a leader in the recovery as we see the market slowly regain some momentum. We are positioned well to take advantage of new markets and regain ground in recovering markets as well.
A look to 2010
The Grande Prairie & District Chamber of Commerce is entering its 95th year of service. We have a board of directors of 21 and a staff of six. In 2010, we will continue to address the many issues affecting business in our area.
• Global marketplace: opportunities to expand our local industries’ market position
• Industry: royalties, mountain pine beetle, rail, transportation and infrastructure
• Medical: new hospital, physician shortage, medical support staff
• Education: trades and medical student training; GPRC degree expansion
• Transportation: Highways - 43x bypass, 43 twining to BC, 40 twinning
• Business education and human resources needs of our business community
