CRIME PREVENTION IN THE COMMUNITY AND REGION

With a growing economy, the issue of crime levels in the area was certainly a factor for business in 2005. Crimes ranging from theft to break-and-enters are always a consideration for business in their daily operations and the need to address them becomes paramount.

What did the Chamber do?

In 2005, the Grande Prairie & District Chamber worked closely with the RCMP Grande Prairie detachment in presenting education and awareness luncheons and seminars to the membership in a variety of areas. Topics included the ‘Methamphetamine Crisis’, and ‘Business Loss and Prevention’. As well, the Chamber Executive met with members of the detachment in attempt to determine a specific role the Chamber could play in crime prevention in the community. As part of this process, the Chamber became a co-chair of the Community Crime Prevention Committee and contributed financial assistance to the development of a community website focused on crime prevention. This support will carry on in 2006.

OTHER SUCCESSES
