HOST OF THE 1995 CANADA WINTER GAMES
One of the first major events hosted by the City, the Canada Winter Games were a major success and proof that the Peace region can play host to major international events. This event has lead to hosting other major sporting events, including the 2000 Alberta Summer Games, national ACAC volleyball tournaments, and the 2004 Royal Bank Cup, the most successful in that event’s history. |

PAVING OF HIGHWAY 40 AND TWINNING OF HIGHWAY 43
As the area experienced tremendous growth, the necessity of adequate transportation corridors loomed. Both routes have provided increased access to and from the city and area, which in turn has since driven sectors like retail and tourism.
CONSTRUCTION OF GRANDE PRAIRIE REGIONAL COLLEGE
Douglas Cardinal brought his architectural genius to the Swan City in the 1970s and GPRC has become a cornerstone of economic development ever since. In an economic impact study conducted by the college in 2002, it was discovered that the overall economic contribution of GPRC to the region is significant, as each 100 students represents a $1 million per year injection to the local economy. |

DEVELOPMENT OF THE GRANDE PRAIRIE AIRPORT
Time Air, CP Air, Air Canada, Canadian Airlines, and WestJet are all names of airlines that have graced the runways of the Grande Prairie Airport over the years. With the establishment of Swanberg Air, Peace Air, and Hawkair in years to follow, the Grande Prairie Airport has become a significant piece of the economic development puzzle for the Peace.
